The services of ELIXIR Finland are available through secure authentication. ELIXIR AAI is a service through which researchers are authenticated and gain access to the services of different ELIXIR nodes. With one user name and single sign-on, researchers can access all ELIXIR services granted to them. The ELIXIR AAI service is produced by the ELIXIR nodes in Finland and the Czech Republic. It is an European-wide authentication solution, which is connected to secure data sharing. The REMS user management programme is part of this service. The Finnish ELIXIR node supports the authentication of researchers and the management of their access rights as part of the European user administration. In Finland, ELIXIR services can be logged into via the joint user identification system of Finnish universities and research institutes, HAKA. In connection with authentication, access rights to research materials are integrated as part of the data analysis service. The organisation granting the access rights has granted them to the researcher using REMS, which is funded by ELIXIR Finland. Through ELIXIR, this tool can also be used in Europe for biomedical materials. REMS is also used in other branches of science, such as social sciences and language studies.
HAKA is a user identification system developed by Finnish universities and CSC. Even if the service is located on the server of another organisation, the user name and password of your own university may be used to log into the service. HAKA is also linked to the international eduGAIN user authentication.
ELIXIR AAI is led by Mikael Linden (ELIXIR Finland) and Michal Prochazka (ELIXIR Czech Republic), contact them at aai-contact@elixir-europe.org.
